can\'t get into 4 wheel drive...fixed thanks to others advice!!

and we finally got snow!!! D@^m I'M PISSED!!!!

4 wheel drive was working this summer the last time i went off road...didn't break anything. yunno, this sux. first my little girl is sick on the first snow of the year and know this! what next? are the Buccaneers going to the Super Bowl?

just went out for a look and here's my results:
i can't tell the gears ---missing plate.
i can pull the selector all the way back and the front tires will engage. if i push the selector into the two foward gears i get nothing from the front axle. i did however get the front tires to grab JUST ONCE in the foward two gears, but not again. i tried for 15-20 minutes with no luck.
what's going on? is it a linkage thing? and just what are the gears (selections) on a np203? it has been converted to part-time, but until now all selections have worked. i'm stumped and pissed...please help before the snow leaves!

Will it go into 4lo, 4HI, or Neutral, or is it stuck in 2WD? Try selecting with K5 rolling very slowly in forward then reverse (basically rocking the vehicle slowly back and forth).

If it has been converted to a part time the seletions are still the same, lo loc, lo, n, hi, hi loc. You have auto hubs? if not are they 1/4 turn or 3/4 turn?

if you have a parttime kit in your 203 case you only have 4hi lock 4hi will be what you run it in. for normal driving neutral then 4low it will be in low range but front wont pull 4low lock it will pull the only 2 positons that allow the front to pull is 4hi lock and 4low lock pull lever back as far as it wiil go thats 4hi lock all the way forward is 4lo lock p.s we had over 6inches of snow here in ga i played in it today

so are you saying that with the part time conversion i'm only going to have hi loc to get the front axle going? i thought the lo loc and hi loc were for continuos 4 wheel drive and that hi and lo were for a limited slip kinda action. i run it in neutral when in two wheel drive.
i'm guessing i have some sort of linkage prob. just gotta get under there and learn something new....or break it and buy something new!
thanks for the input

Is it possible for you to put the truck up on stands and try each gear selection? I don't mean with the motor going just place the t-case in each range and lock the hubs and see what turns when.

it has been converted to part-time

The part time kits either get rid of or lock out the internal differential, depending on which kit was installed.

no you will have 4hi lock and 4low lock they will power the front end you have 5 positons only 2 will engage the front end what i like about a fulltime to part time kit is that you have a low range that you can use this is 4low but only your rear will pull its not like a limted slip i know what i am trying to say is hard to understand but just play with it leave your hubs unlocked and try this place lever back in 4hi lock which is all the way back get under truck try to turn front drive by hand if it doesnt turn this means that it is locked in move it up 1 position this is 4hi which is what you want to run your truck in. neutral is next shift forward then your next shift forward is 4low this will allow just only the rear to pull but it will be in low range which is good for pulling but not good to run at high speeds next postion forward is 4low lock this allows the front to pull the front if it doesnt you may have to adjust your linkage you say that you run in the neutral position this sounds like you do need to make an adjustment if it was in neutral you wouldnt move best thing to do is get out and play with it just see what it does each time you shift to a different postion just remember that there are 5 differnt postions with you 203 case with part-time kit only 2 postions 4hi lock and 4low lock will allow the front to pull i hope i really have you confused now

thanks for your help 4x4k20. your tip on turning the shaft by hand was new to me and helped me find that my 4 wheel lo does work.
i appreciated everyones input and know with confidence i can work thru just about anything with ya'lls help.
