i have an '89 chevy scottsdale..ya know with the complicated computer and throttle body on it..well the dag'on thing just died on me the other day at a stop light and wouldnt start, it would crank over, but wouldnt start, so i pulled it to a parking lot and let it sit for a minute and then it ended up starting, i drove it home and then, did a few things, and then went to leave and it started, and ran for a few minutes then died out on me again, and it hasnt ran since then. it died out quick both times.. i allready replaced the coil and distributor cap and rotor to see if that would help.. it didnt.. thought the starter solenoid was bad so i crossed it and it still turned over but didnt start.. im left withough a clue, anybody familiar with the throttle body chevys? im taking any suggestions on what to do.. thanks

Is it getting fuel and spark? Does it only happen when the truck is warm? Have you done any recent work on it? It could be a host of things causing your issues, but try and narrow it down for us, brother!! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I would suggest that it could be a dying fuel pump/plugged fuel filter or a bad ignition module, although seeing that it's TBI it could be something else that I'm not aware of.

If I had to Guess I would say fuel pump. THe symptoms are right for it.

As for how complicated it is......That's one of the most simple FI's out there. Buy a factory manual or one of the many GM EFI books on the market. Your making it harder then it is by fighting it. You can diagonse most problems with a Manual, $20 Raidio shack Multi Meter and a paperclip.

well i thought that it may have been a clogged fuel filter myself so i loosened up the line right after the filter and gas poured out.. and i am about to try to check again to see if i have fire, somebody else told me to take the fuel line off of the filter again and turn on the key and if gas comes out pretty quickly then that means there is nothing wrong with my fuel pump.. im about to try that. im gonna go see if i have fire as well..thanks
