Hey guys, this is Michelle, divorced's girlfriend. We are expecting twins soon and was thinking about what vehicles we have capable of safely transporting two kids and then we questioned the safety of having two car seats in the front of a regular cab truck. The truck in question is a 1995 C1500 regular cab long bed.

Any comments or opinions are welcome.

It's not the only one available, but may be used a couple times a week.

I run my two year old around all the time in the front of my 94 c1500. I don't have any reservations about it. When the next one is born, I will have to cart the two of them around in the front. Probably on a limited basis, that's what my wifes trailblazer is for. But I wouldn't hesitate to put the both of them in the truck with me.

I wouldn't do it if the truck has airbags, or if one of the seats will interfere with your driving. Make sure the seatbelts will hold both seats effectively. I'd feel terrible if the seat with the poorer belt situation were to be an issue in an accident, while the other seat did fine.

    Nope, no passenger side airbag.

Here are our thoughts - It seems to us like any frontal crash severe enough to cause the dash board to impact the car seats would be a very bad wreck, and it may not matter where the kids are seated they would receive horrible injuries. It seems like a side impact would be better survived in the back seat of a car or van than it would be next to the door in a truck. We need to decide if we are going to haul them in this truck ocassionally or if we need to find a different vehicle.

Do any police or firefighters have any knowledge from past experiences?

Well what did people do when there were no extended cab trucks? Not trying to be a prick or anything but that 95 doesnt have an airbag anyways so it would be fine..

1st thing to worry about is the air bag.
2nd is the car seat its self. We have the $300 Britax car seat for our daughter and I would have no reservations about putting her in the fron of a 1500 if I had one.

Just out of curiosity, do the manufacturers say anything about this?

I let my kids ride in their carseats in the front of my suburban all of the time. No air bag and its firmly strapped in, So I don't see the difference. THey are not rear facing, so there may be a difference in the distance between those and the dash, But I would not think that they would travel very far because of the seatbelt.

Sometimes the most obvious things never enter my mind. I guess I could look in the owners manual for info about it :doah:

THat was written by engineers and lawyers. In china. If the translation is good, it will no doubt warn you never to put a child in it at all and to quit driving.
