My friend's little commuter car ('90ish Ford Escort) got stolen from in front of my house last night. He left it here while he & I were out of town for the weekend because I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood. He got sick when we came home sunday so I told him not to worry about the car, just come get it when he felt better. :doah:It was there when I went to bed at 10pm last night, but he called me at 5am this morning saying the cops recovered it over on the industrial side of town. They broke the passenger's window, the back window, and kicked a dent in the sheetmetal behind the passenger's door. All they took was the damn CD player. There was an empty gun case & some tools in the back seat they didn't even touch. Seriously, why would someone risk getting caught stealing a car over an old CD player they MIGHT get $20 for? :screwy: Probably some stupid tweaker.

Those bastids. What's the big deal with CD players? CD players manufactured just 4 years ago are now as outdated as a cassette players but continue to be stolen out of cars for no apparent monetary reason. I know people that have had their stereos stolen out of their cars recently and the CD players are OLD, like bought in '98 or '99. Those stereos are worth next to nothing. You tend to not care about the CD player but the damage the thieves caused to the vehicle just to get the stupid thing.

Yep, and being that they broke the back window out of a hatchback it will probably cost him $400-500+ to get it fixed. He only paid $1000 for the whole car when he bought it. :(

It almost makes you want to leave your car unlocked...almost.

Keep the car unlocked, the fuel pump disconnected, and the shotgun loaded. Now there's an idea! :D

I generally don't lock my vehicles. If they want in, they're going to get in.

For example, I did lock my F-250 when we took the kids to Seaworld last summer. Some asshat stuck a screwdriver under my driver side handle and popped the lock to steal ---- NOTHING. I think they were looking for a purse behind the seat because the left the IPOD on the console and credit card I used to keep above the visor. Broad daylight with security towers in the parking lot.

Yeah well my crappy 94 corsica has been broken into 4 times for the crappy 20-40 dollar radio I have in there. I take the face with me always, and leave the car unlocked. Other then my registration and insurance papers there is nothing in there that I care about. All my CD's are burned, and I only keep like a buck worth of change.
