well im thinking about getting an aftermarket carb. But i need the truck to star emisions legal, right now it has an M4ME quadrajet. Im thinking of replacing it whith a 650 holley spreadbore. Holleys site saysit is emmisions legal and lists a part number for a 84 350 but not a 305, should both motors have the same carb needs?

As long as your carb only has the one plug for electric choke on it, then any aftermarket emissions legal shouldn't be an issue.

Might be some "fine tuning" issues, but I'll leave that up to folks that are familiar with Holley's.

Any reason to be dumping the Q-jet?? You can get rebuild kits for around $20, and have the throttle shaft bushed for $40 or so.

Now there's the question of the day, especially since he already got one. Tomorrow he'll change his mind again though.

I have had an Edelbrock-Holley-and Quadra Jet on my K5. The Edelbrock ran the best but sucked for wheeling. I recently switched back to the quadra jet. IMO it is the best thing for wheeling besides the Holly Off road carb.

Hope the reuild helps. Make sure you get a brass float if possible. I have heard they are the best as opposed to the plastic ones. The rebuild is pretty easy and well worth the small amount of cash :)

Ran fine before you changed that clamp! I think I have tinnitus from hearing that backfire. We need to talk about this weekend too.

Not to hijack the thread, but I am getting ready to replace the carb on my 305. I only use my Jimmy for on-road use. What would you guys recommend? How many CFM for decent gas mileage? I read that the stock carb is over 750cfm, but I am thinking about something under 600? The current carb is computer controlled, but it isn't working. It runs super rich. Suggestions?

How, praytell, is it computer controlled in a 85?? I may be electric choke, but it surely can't be computerized. Yeah, the Q-Jet you have on it right now has a 30psi pump and 750cfm air flow... the best bet is to drop a Holley 600 on it, you'll get more fuel and a bit less air... and it can be calbrated to run the way you want it...

By the way, how is it running rich with 750cfm air flow?? It should be running lean.
