i found an open carrier for my 14 bolt for 50 bucks. is that a good deal? it has something like 3.42 gears or something. would i be able to fit 4.56 gears on that carrier.

That doesn't sound like a bad price, but call and ask one of the gear dealers if they have new ones. Sometimes the stock, open carriers can be pretty cheap.

You can buy 4.56 gears that are made with the ring gear extra thick, to work on a 4.10 and down carrier. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If that carrier comes with 3.42's you have an excellent deal on your hands. Its the rarest ratio for the 14FF, and 3.21/3.42 gearsets are gaining in popularity with the rising price of fuel.

(Just a little 411 from one a guy I know who works in a rear-end shop.)
