We have a high pinion dana 44 out of a 79' F-150 ranger that we need to sell. Someone that has a new chevy looking to do a solid axle swap told me that the late 70's D44's under fords are cast iron making it hard to weld on spring perches and use it to replace the new IFS setups. A cast iron D44? Sounds like BS to me. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

the housing is cast iron, that is of course hard to weld to, the tubes are standard steel, no if ands or butts, the guy was told the centersection was cast iron and felt it all was.

That is what I am thinking, I already new that the housing is cast, thats obvious but the tubes have to be steel. The coil mount is cast and wraps around the tube and the question is if it unbolts off. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Why would they have to weld perches onto it? The drivers perch is cast into the housing and the pass. perch is welded to the tube...

If it's from an F150 it probably has coil pockets instead of leaf perches.
