    How much does a cat engine like that cost? How did you adapt it to the trany? Which trany are you running?

    it seems to be missing right now /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

    yes its only 2wd

    has a dropped front axle in the front

    would have been another 8" taller up front if i put in one of my Dana60's

    I soooo wish it was 4wd.

    Still - its a cool thing! I'm thinking real hard about a perkins or a cummins for this M1008 in my backyard.

    I found a 84-ish flat nosed Ford cab-over (F650?) with a 3208 in it. Air brakes, Fuller 9-speed RoadRanger. Only trouble is the crank's seized. 10.4L (636 c.i.) yumm!

    Anyway... it opens up the donor vehicle situation a little bit. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    cool ride.

    do you know how to decipher the Cat nomenclature?
    3208 =
    3 = ?
    2 = ?
    0 = ?
    8 = # of cylinders

    Ya buddie, When I went through a diesel course at the local College. We had a 3208 on a stand, boy when that thing fired up. Woah mama! sweet. Where would one find a cheap deisel like that?

    I used to know what the #s ment as far as engine designation. Like Detroit 8v71, v8, 71cid/cyl. But I forget the Cat. stuff. I thought it may be the same but 250 cid. dosen't seem right?

    gtkustoms, just out of curiosity, what are the torque specs on that engine? 500+? Hope you have some extra rear-ends laying around as well.
    Speaking of which, those dana 60's (plural) you have LAYING around, lets hear some more about those /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    How far does that combo hang out the bottom? Looks pretty severe in that first pic. Also, looks like it could be moved up quite a bit with a remote air filter box. Either way, nice project. Like someone else said, good luck keeping the rear axles in it.

    Oh, looks like the radiator is in the bed (no surprise it needed relocating). How much else needed done to fit that CAT in there?

    yeah it could be moved up a bite but the turbo on those sits off the back of the block...then that would lead to more fab work to remove the firewall and put in a tranny tunnel...the tranny is about the size of a big block..

    as it sits now i can get in and work on every bolt, if need be..that counts for some things in my book /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

    as for all of the other work:
    1.boxed frame
    2.cut frame from big truck graft on to pu frame. i was planning on leaving the 2wd chassis as original with some motor home upgrades to handle the weight....did not work
    3. mount drop axle, custom spring packs, custom mounts.
    4. find right steering box to get it to steer in the right direction. the box is mounted at a 90 degree angle
    5. build steering shafts
    6. build adjustable chromoly linkage
    7. run radiator in box
    8. tranny cooler in box
    9. fuel tank in box
    10. install dana 80 in rear, moved perches

    thats all i can think of right now.
