Mine had some type of beads in it, that when they hit the driveway, turned into a goo when wet. The containing material had torn, resulting in the convertor becoming clogged.

Rather then mess around trying to work around it, I got a high flow cat from Summit, increased performance. I've heard of people driving pipes through the Cats to make them truly "high-flow", but never done it myself. I'm a tree hugger.

I had a 91 S-10 blazer with cat. It had a ceramic type honeycomb interior. I used a piece of rebar to hollow it out. It ran with a noticeable amount of more power. Problem was two years later at smog time it failed and I had to replace the cat. So I would go with the aftermaket high flow cat if I were to do it again.
