I say the more you can get the better. I don't think 10 sec is enough.

I think I've seen as high as 20-30 sec.

Most of tha anti skip is carp. To tell you the truth more of a buffer it has the the lower the sound quality you recieve. Buffer means they take the music, compress it save it then decompress it and play it. Do you like condensed dehydrated rehydrated Orange juice or fresh squeezed. Get yourself into a Good quality unit. Upper end Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, Eclipse, Clarion, Rockford. I would have to say that of all those brands I would suggest the Alpine. And if you really want to be able to hammer it(the gas pedal) and listen to cds, the get yourself into a cd changer. A cd changer is going to have a whole lot better suspension system. What brands have you been considering????? Let me know I will try to help.

I thought the newer model cd players eliminated the need to compress/decompress by increasing (Trippling, quadrupling, etc...) buffer size? Thats what the kid at The Good Guys said....(which may not mean crap!!)
