    CD\'s are skipping, help

New Rockford head unit. Mounted in dash with adaptor plate, home made out of sheet metal. I know the lifted blazer with BIG A$$ mud tires isn't gonna ride all that smooth, but man this unit skips at every little bump, even dips in the road.
Hell, it skips when my tranny goes from 1st to 2nd. What can be done? Note: I dont have any sorta strap on the rear of the unit back behind the dash area. Could this be the item I need to stop this? Thanks!

i would think that some strap metal wouldhelp stabalize the unit from skipping as bad as it does, but does fosgate say that it has any sort of anti-ship mechanism?

hmmm.. i would try using the strap steel to brace it and make sure you cant wiggle it at all after you get it in and braced because that will lead to the notorious skipping for sure

I am not a fan of Rockford Fosgate. I'd personly consitter swapping it for a JVC, KENWOOD, SONY, PIONEER, ...ECT. I think you are paying more for the name then anything else with RF.

is the units warranty stil good? if so i would contact fosgate and tell them your problems if any other solutions dont work because it could end up being a defective unit

Well, I have done a "custom installation job myself, it is possible that your cd player is mounted too firmly to the truck, as dumb as that sounds, and it is picking up every little vibration. If you are willing ;>) trim your custom stereo mount a little bigger than the deck, get an bicycle innertube and wrap it around the deck once or twice where it makes contact with your mount. That should eat up most of the vibrations that your sensitive fosgate deck whines about. There are other types of insulators you can come up with if a bicycle inner tube is just a little too "white trash" for ya!

I'll try the rear strap first and see what that does.
