Winter is approaching here in the Great White North. I was pondering regarding last year and the hellacious winter beating we took and the amount of times I pulled cars out of trouble.

Do you guys pull people out in the winter?
Are you afraid someone could sue u if u screw their car up?
    Do you charge them?

Do you only help out the girls ;) ;)

    Funniest snow moment ever?

    Lets liven up this forum!!!

My job involves a lot of road time, a good portion of it in a backhoe. I'm always helping people dig their cars out after a big snowfall, and the odd time when I'm in the K5 I'll give the odd person a tug if they need it.....

The girl thing is highly overrated. The cute ones seem to EXPECT you to help them out. I get the most satisfaction from helping out the old folks.

ok I'm outta the region but I like the subject

really depends on the car and the person....I don't mean to be a dick but some people deserve to sit there and think about how they got themselves into that position.
    and then there's that :D

as for funniest...my house up north is on the steepest street in town. 90% of the traffic on weekends are people from southern california--enough said. We've sat for hours on end watching car after car slide down into anything and eveything in the way. the record is 11 cars, 2 police exbiditons, and a fullsize snowplow. Then there's gambling on who's gonna make it up the hill, stuff like that. I'll have to remember to get some pics or video this year.
Can't tell by this how steep it really is but you can see the potential for carnage.

I will pull pretty much anyone. Unless I recognize them as one of those guys. I never charge, but will accept if someone offers. If the guy doesnt offer, he doesnt usually get pulled again. Actually, if its a ditch thing, I will pull regardless... if its a phone call : Hey Im stuck can you come get me? and he doesnt offer anything, he doesnt get another chance.
The main thing is: Make them hook thier end to thier own vehicle. That way, if he f*cks it up, its his fault! I will offer advice on where to hook, but its up to them to actually do it.

yeah that's true, I always tell people that we'll try to hook things properly but we're doign this at their own risk and if they want they can wait for a tow truck. Just to cover my ass

I always stop to pull people out because it sucks when your the one in the ditch. I spend most of my time on private oil feild roads and you never know when you'll need a tug yourself. That being said I never hook up to their veichle and I never take money even if its offered I just tell them if they see some one else stuck return the favor. Out here the unspoken rule is if you can't pull out he veichle that your meeting you get the ditch.:haha:

Sorry, no pics, but MISF & I were headed to a desert race (chasing our friend's S-10). Honkin' down CA138 in the middle of the night headed for Palmcaster & beyond when I see a Honda Insight pointed nose to the ditch. Not much of a ditch either. Most of us would see it & think "OK under 50 MPH & it'll be good". That thing's got it's front bumper on the far berm and it isn't going anywhere. I called up to MISF 0on the radio and said I think they're stuck. He says, as I see his brake lights come on, "No sh_t! We outta yank em out then."
High traffic two lane road. Not even close to safe to pull them straight back, so we latch onto the RR lower control arm (no point in asking him to attach - totally, completely clueless city type) and drag the rear sideways. MISF's Scout never went into 4x, just backed up. Gotta love that V8 torque.....

I'll pretty much always stop and offer a hand. Anymore they'll usually have a phone and help on the way when I stop. That being said however . . .

My best story was out delivering papers one morning for a friend who needed a couple days off. About two o clock in the morning, ten or twelve miles from town, and around -28 C. Cruising down one side of the divided highway when I see a little black Sunfire just barely off the road on the other side, and a couple girls crossing the ditch waving at me. I pulled over and offered a hand. Pulled the back into the lane, and was under the front unhooking when the driver, who was a real cutie, came around and says she has no idea how to thank me enough, she wants to give me a hug. Ok I think, that's nice. Get up out of the snow, put my arms around her, and she reaches back, grabs one of my hands, and slides it down over her butt, and says "here, squeeze my a$$ a little, that'll make you feel good." :haha: So I did, and it did  I was in a daze the rest of the morning:eek1:

I ALWAYS stop to see if people need help now :D

HAHA, thats awesome! I will pull someone out, usually don't take anything for it, depends on the person i guess. I use to pull people out in my work truck alot, i dont work in the field anymore so not much pulling action other than middle of the night drunk friends. I hit them up for some beer every now and then.

I have pulled my share of people out. Been pulled a few times myself. If there is any hint of Alcohol on thier breath they stay there though.

My most memorable pull was while rideing snowmobile. These kids drove a escort down the snowmobile trail(seasonal access road) and got stuck. Hooked the car to the snowmobiles and pulled them out. Didn't even get a thank you.

I frequently pull people out of the ditch. I don't ask for money, but I don't turn it down either...

My best was 4 pulls in one night, on the same road within a 1 km stretch... My favourite recovery ever was an older ford that hit the ditch right at the end of my driveway. I fired up the bobcat, hooked up to his trailer hitch, lifted the rear of the truck up, and just drug it right out, lol
