Am replacing the complete 700r4/208 tranny in my Blazer with the SM465/205 setup from a 79' 1/2 ton pick-up. My only concern is the loss of the overdrive gear, I do a fair bit of highway mileage and dont want to have the engine screaming. Am presently running 31" tires with stock ride height and planning to keep it that way. Any advice on axle gear ratio selection would be appreciated.

3.42 should work good. I was driving a K30 yesterday with a diesel/th400 with 4:10's and it was not bad at highway speed.

I am currently running 3.42 gears in my '80 truck with 33" tires. I don't have a tach, but I do know that while I'm doing 65-75 mph, the engine is not revved up too high, and I get decent gas mileage too. It feels a little underpowered (worn out 305 2 bbl), but with a good engine you'll be fine.
