These are pics of the engine in my Sub. It only had 25,000 miles on it and was built profesionally(at least it was suppose to be). /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Wow! That bites the big one. I've been there though. Sucked water into an engine just 3 weeks after I got it installed. It's a gut-wrenching feeling to see a rod hanging out of the oil pan. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif It's hard to tell from the pic just what broke first, the rod or the piston, but it looks as though the cap might have broken. The rod could have had a hairline crack that only would have shown up with a magnaflux test. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Details: 40 mph, up a slight grade with a 16 ft. trailer running about 2200-2500 rpm. It wasn't a over revving problem, it was a bad parts or building problem.

Yes those are oil lines going to the cooler.

    Re: Check this out!!

Now that's throwing a rod !!! I've seen tons of grenaded motors, rods in several pieces, valves in the pan, busted blocks, busted cranks but that rod hangin all the way out is a new one for me. You ever see a top fuel motor go by by ?

    Re: Check this out!!

I've been told rod failure like that is almost always caused by either defective fasteners or incorrect torque on the fasteners.

After seeing that I'll be investing in ARP rod bolts on my next motor for sure!

Should seen the sb 350 in a malibu the MP's had at Liggett. Some one dropped a 1/4" ball of C4 in each cylinder. What a mess that motor was when they fired it up. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
