Trying to ID this tranny and t-case combo and have no clue what it is. The transfer case is an aluminum borg warner driver side drop. the adapter is the round style and the only number I could find on the adapter itself is 18306 in the casting. the tranny is a manual with np for new process on a couple of spots on it. The tranny is cast iron with an aluminum top. on the tranny it is stamped np then a box with a w in the middle and a (c17321) and a c-16812. I know this came out of a chevy, but other than that have no clue. It was in a fire, but did not get totally hot as the t case is in perfect shape and the aluminum top of the tranny did not melt, but any stickers or things like that are gone. WTF is it?

    Sounds like a NP435 and a Borg warner T-case...but that's Ford. [IMG]

There are some threads on the POR board about cases you might want to go hunt down. It may out of a 87-91 truck (new body). There is also some aluminum top 465's that were around about the same time. I would do a search on NV4500 and 3500 and see if you can find some pictures. You may have just scrored you a 4500

NV 4500 has an aluminum top...and was introduced in 92.

Fact that it's from an '88 or newer bodystyle explains the driver output.

Easy to tell the difference between the getrag and the NV4500. The Getrag is an all aluminum one piece 5 speed with a regular first gear instead of a granny low. It looks like an automatic...The NV4500 has a separate Bell housing and an aluminum top plate with a cast iron case. It also has a PTO provision on the drivers side.

  12. all right, brian, where did you get this thing? what are you scheming now? driver's side drop, huh? maybe a dodge front end with coil suspension to boot, grannie low and od? sounds like a cool combo. lets see though, the truck was in a fire but some how the trannie is ok? Hmmmmm....sounds fishy.[IMG]

thanks rene, it does have the aluminum top case and cast iron housing, so that kind of answers my question. what threw me off was np all over this thing. I thought new process and new venture were diferent companys.

Jason, this truck is crispy, found parts of it in powell butte. the cab and engine compartment are toast, but the t case is perfect and the aluminum on the top cover of the tranny did not melt or warp. It shifts great in all gears, there is even a rubber breather on top of the case which is hard, but still there so I think it would be ok. Any word on that zilla? I have a new holley with your name on it.

New Process Gear was originally owned by Chrysler Corp. Sometime in the early '90s, GM bought into the company 50%, and the name was changed to New Venture Gear. I would guess that the NV4500 was designed while it was still New Process Gear.
