MT Wheeler, myself and about 15 of our local club members went up to fetch Christmas trees yesterday. We found lots of dense, drifted snow, and some really nice trees. The milder rigs stayed down and the bigger rigs went up higher and found the deeper snow.

Thanks to MT Wheeler for taking the action shots of my rig :waytogo:

Cool pictures. So you can just drive to the mountains, find a tree and take it home, that's cool.

Almost.... You gotta get a $5 Christmas Tree permit from the local FS office, but otherwise that's correct.

That looks like a lot of fun, you hafta love 4x4 convoys. It's always good to see the Chevy's in action.

    Cool pics.

We're going up to cut our Christmas tree this coming weekend. The snow is never that deep, though. At least not on the trail. You do have to watch out when you start walking out looking for the tree.

We pay the same $5 to the USFS. Pretty simple. You drive in, cut the tree, and pay when you leave.

We have always been able to buy permits and cut trees in northern California. In the Quincy/Portola area is where we usually go. If my friends would stop wussin out and not be afraid to get their trucks dirty, I could also be enjoying a snow/mud run. Looked like it was fun.

Mike, looks like a good time. We had our Christmas tree run planned for this weekend (11 Dec) but we scouted a couple of areas and found the snow at least 5 feet deep. Its a little too much to wheel in. I guess we got a bit more snow then you guys did!

As a kid growing up in Montana, my Dad and I every year used to go and get our tree. Man, I miss that. For some reason, we always ended up with a tree about 3 feet taller than the ceiling:laugh:
