    Civil Service Employee\'s

Firemen that have lights on their personal vehicle's, talk about their job's constanly, listen to the scanner off duty, and wear clothing associated with their job while off the clock are called "Jip's"

What is the term used for police that do the same?

all the FDs around here are volunteer, so almost everyone has strobes on their personal vehicles, and there really is no "off-duty" for them, so their scanners are usually on all the time. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

having firefighters and policemen friends who listen to the scanners off-duty has saved my ass a few times. like the time i was at a party and got a call basically saying RUN. cops showed up 2 minutes later /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Who calls them "Jips"? Been in the fire service for 6 years, and spent my whole life living with a fireman (my dad). I'm actually a third generation fireman, and I have never heard the term before. Just curious, funny guy.

I have been in the fire service for a long time and do not have lights, very seldom talk about fire stuff, do not have or listen to a scanner, wear fire clothing (other than on duty) nor do I have any stickers, licence plates. etc. indicating my profession on my vehicle. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

What is the diffinition of "Jip's"? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

This could be slang used in Texas mainly but all of my civil service buddies (fireman, police, emt) call each other Jip's for one reason or another.

It's to bad I don't know you personally. It would be nice for me to have some basis for my opinion of you. Until then, I will keep it to myself.

What part of Oklahoma do you patrol? I frequent the Grand Lake area and Tulsa/Bixby area.

volunteer fireman is where the term "jip" is used mainly. I have several firefighter buddies climbing their way up the ladder, no pun, trying to get a paycheck. paid volunteers don't make d!ck, for that matter neither do the municipal FF's
