    \"Clanking\" noise

I get a loud "clanking" noise when I put on the brakes and stop. I don't think it's my brakes, though. My brakes do squeak, though, but that's not unusual. What could it be? My u-joints are only a year old and they are heavy duty. Could it be my rear end?

No lift (yet). I've heard it all this week and am not sure what it is. Doesn't sound too good, though. Anyone have any ideas?

Finding the clank is easy, just make the noise happen repeatedly and as hard as you can until something breaks. When something quits working you will know what it was. haha Just kidding. Does it happen when you just start to brake or when the braking force starts to pull the nose of the truck down? If it happens when you first hit the brakes it may be a loose caliper. Just a thought.

it happens when the braking force makes the nose of the truck go downward.

I had this same symptom on mine for a while but I can't remember exactly what it was. I would check the following...
    1. U-Joint retaining bolts for tightness
    2. Shock mount bushings
    3. Spring Mount U-Bolt Tightness
    4. Transmission to Motor bolts
    5. Front body mounts (especially under the doors)

I imagine you hit up most of these, hope I hit something you missed.
