I am in the process of installing a 350 in my k10 and I wanted to clean the engine up a bit. What should I use to get rid of all the grease and grime? Thanks

I have heard that Oven Cleaner can actually damage seals etc. Gunk is the best stuff I have heard of, but then again small hands are always going to be the best. HAHAHAHA

I second the EZ off oven cleaner. The best thing is to spray it on and let it sit for about 10 minutes then use hot water if you can with a high pressure nozzle on the hose and soon you will have a super clean engine. I also have never heard of it damaging seals and i've used it for years now with no issues with bad seals.

Don't use the oven cleaner if you have an aluminum intake, or any other aluminum parts, it wil oxidize the AL like a mofo.

In the simplest of terms a steam cleaner is a pressure washer that used hot water in this case steam. Works wonders well worth paying someone to do it. Carefull with the gunk and other stuff a buddy of mine did it at night at a diy carwash and the guy that owned it just happened to pull in at the same time to wash his truck. Long story short it is a against the law and my buddy got sued and had to pay the guy 1500 bucks for some EPA fine just be carefull

theonly degreasing chemical i use is kerosene

usually engines and trannies i take to local car wash and use the engine degreaser, i plug all engine holes with plastic grocery store bags
works great, only spend a coupel bucks to wash en engine or tranny, then after a quick dry time its ready too paint and install into vehicle

i dont evne prep clean.scrape before car washing them, but you could i guess.

i use kerosene for small stuff like starter motors, and when are scraping off axle housings, etc

    good luck

get a thing called super purple. you can get it a t wally world or a cheaper version called purple power at parts stores. before you spray it on, you might want to dilute it a little because i used it on my motor just as it was, and it ate the grease off in minutes, but it was starting to eat my paint off too.

I should also mention that I dont have access to a hose where I am trying to clean it. Its in my garage, and my association is majorly Anal! The only hose I got is in my patio, and I cant do it there! :D So I need a cleaner that I can soak on, and wipe clean.
