I'm not a republican, so I need some help understanding their (your?) position on this.

Feel free to rip apart anything I say or assume, but please don't attack me personally...teach me, don't beat me down...thanks

In generall it seems that the political right in this country feels that privatization (AKA market liberalization) is a GOOD thing, and government operation or oversight of anything is a BAD thing. Whether it be for health insurance, social secutiry, power companies etc.

But how does public land fit into the rhetoric?

I could easily see someone on the right seeing "publik" land as a communist-style program that should be sold off to the highest bidder immidietly...because market forces would correct everything, and we, as 4-wheelers, should pay for access to land held by private owners.

It's funny, you ask not to be attacked or beat down, but yet you make insinuating comments such as, 'government operation or oversight of anything is a BAD thing', or 'I could easily see someone on the right seeing "publik" land as a communist-style program'.

Those are what I call, 'Over generalizing statements that are not only unflattering but downright insulting'.

So, IMHO, you're asking for something and insulting in the same breath while asking not to be attacked or beat down.

Am I missing something  :dunno: ?

Obviously every individual is going to differ from the party-line a little bit..on a couple things (whether they are small or big things)

My argument is that the party line says goverment oversight and public ownership is bad. (am I wrong?)

ok...so let me get more specific...how does the party line treat this subject?

and for sh!ts and giggles how do you see it?

What you ask, I think, is a very, very ambiguous question :D !!

I look at it roughly two ways:

    1) How our forefathers saw it.

    2) How it is today.

Because the first is very different from the second.

    DISCLAIMER:

You ask a very good academic question.
I use both my index fingers to type with only.
The question at hand needs lots of in-depth commo and I'm not fast enough to type responses.
So I use 'Cliff's Notes' sentences so you don't fall asleep!

In short, I believe the U.S. Government owns too much land.

That's not what our Forefathers had in mind when they founded our country.

That's one of the reasons why they came here, to get away from Englands grasp of land ownership.

Sweet, thanks for the response  That's kind of what I was looking for.

I guess what I'm really trying to "figure out" here is how this generalized group of people comes to terms with what I see to be conflicting ideals.

specifialy this struggle between the ideology of the right side of the aisle (= gov. owns no (or little) land) and the 4 wheeling community's struggle to "save our public lands".

Hopefully we can get some more responses! (I'll be up all night pulling an all-nighter for a test tomorrow :D )

Personally I believe in public land, public education, public utilities, public healthcare :eek1:....

But if I started with any of that I WOULD be personally attacked, so I'll shut-up now and wait for more responses to roll in while I read this entire textbook sitting next to me :doah:

I vote republican. I'm for public land and education but not utilities or healthcare. When you get 2 parties to pick from you can't agree with everything.

Most of my ideology stems from my belief in God, and how/and why this country was founded.

If one does not understand why/how this nation was founded, then I would submit to you, that one has little idea of what one's talking aboot in regards to the politics, religion, and policies that makes us such a great nation.

What, specifically, do you base this on?
