Just got back from Wheelin with hotrodk5, jamiemac, mudstud, bigbad75k5. Everything was killer till I started driving home. Found I had a hole in my gas tank. And while driving down the road at any speed under load , flat ground or down hill its like its slipping but clunking at the same time. Kind of like it would slip and grab and then would make the sound, but you can feel the truck slip. It sounds like it is coming from the tranny or t-case.Any one have any input on this??
    Thanks

I had that slipping and Chattering type of clunk prob in one of my blazers.

turns out my oversized tires and lack of tranny cooler, fryed my tranny, within a month from that day of offroad, my tranny was shot, all it was were the clutch packs tho. the heat just melts the friction surface off of them.
so if you have oversized tires and no tranny cooler and you remember intense heat from your tranny.

your tranny will be dead in a months time :)

hope its something else for you but that was my experience

    Theres no replacement for displacement!

I just thought of one more thing it might be,,, if your diffs are mixed gears, you might not notice that on some off-roading, but on smooth ground you would notice, and on cement it'll just break stuff up.
i dont know, just trying to think what it could be.
I bought a truck one time and it had a 3:42 front diff and a 3:73 rear diff LOL
I just bought it for parts tho, so wasnt to bad.

Been there done all that simple stuff. I have rebuilt the front gears to match the rear. And have driven it well over 5000 miles and no problems till today after the all day wheelin trip. It feels like the t-case is jumping out of 4 hi into neutral and back into gear. Like slipping a gear or jumping a tooth sorta like. (on the interstate at any speed over 45)

Does this sounds like a T-case problem ot a tranny problem? The only thing I cant tell you till tomorrow morning is what the fluid level is on either since I got home from the trip. But this doesn't "feel" or "seem" like no vacum or pressure loss, or clutch slippage. It feels solid metalic in the drive train some where between the T-case and the transmission.

Shitter, Im getting there. I had to get the gas tank out first. With 3/4 of a tank too. [IMG] My luck!!! [IMG]....

The bad thing is that everything works like a champ for x miles and them wham, clunck....Im betting its the tranny. Damn I hope so. I already have that paid for ready to go in. I should know something on the T-case by tomorrow night.

Make sure you check your flex plate while you have everything out!
I helped my father in law swap the tranny in his burb last night and the flex plate was cracked to the point that it could have come completely apart.(he knocked the center out with a tap from a hammer). It kept making a loud clicking noise, sounded like a rod.

Update.... It was the pads on the range and mode forks in the transfer case. They had come off and floating around in the fluid and randomly getting in between the gears. [IMG]
I would have never thought these little pieces of plastic would cause that much of a problem.
But all is good now, except for the other post on exhaust issues. Seeing as thought the manifold collector studs broke off. [IMG] Im using this to talk the wife into letting me go ahead and get headers. [IMG] If any of you tell her that I dont have to replace the manifolds right now, I'll hunt you down and cuss you to oblivion!!! [IMG] Then we'll have a beer!![IMG]
