Hey guys, here it is. The first cut of the map I developed is on my page. No one take anything personally (i.e., our CoK5 brothers and sisters outside the US). This is just a first cut, so mods/improvements are coming. And please let me know of any problems you guys encounter or suggestions you have.

One change I am thinking about is putting the list of people into the original applet instead of popping up a new frame. Let me know what you think.

Make sure you get the hand cursor before you click. I only made the letters for each state clickable.

Hey that is really cool, what program did you use to make that? I am taking a Java programming class at college this semester and I was just wondering what program you used. That is really cool.

    Map how-to

Hey l&p. I just used a Java applet and frame with some GUI stuff done in Symantec's Visual Cafe.

I grabbed a gif of the US. Went into Paint and found the pixel coordinates for each state. Then I registered mouse events to pick up whether the mouse was over a state.

Unfortunately, this first version has the people info hard coded into a clas file. I am gonna change it to read off a file so it's easier to change in the future.

It just looks up what people are in the state and list them. I figured out the base url for coloradok5 profiles and then just concatenate the user name onto that url. I just bring up another browser window with that profile.

If you want the code, let me know and I will email it to you. [IMG]

Sorry, that just came to mind.

Of course you can put it on. Maybe I can beef it up a little first(have some mods in mind already). Or we can leave it on my page and you can link to it.

We can talk about it. I did it for all of us on the site, so don't think I'm hoggin it!

    Awsome!! Great work.[IMG]
Would it be possible to make it where people can enter their own names and cities? Or can they now?

Email me if you wanna get on the map

Hey cak5, what's up! I posted a thread for everyone to email me with their info. It was easier on me than going thru the profiles or reading through the crap on the Roll Call thread.

I will put you on when I update it in the next day or two [IMG] .
