    \"Complete\" fluid change on 700R4.

Anybody know how to change ALL of the tranny fluid in a 700R4 ? Just dumping the pan only gets what's in the pan. Can ya easily drain the stock torque converter too ? I'd like to do a FULL change.

    Thanks, Eric

I think that if you take it somewhere to get a "flush and fill" they flush out all of the old fluid and replace it with new. I'm not positive on this, as I have never had it done... but that is what it sounds like. I do know, however, that sometimes if you put alot of new tranny fluid in a tranny that is old it may start to slip.

Take the return line FROM the tranny cooler off the tranny case and put it in a bucket to drain...then start the truck and put the tranny in neutral and let it idle as you keep pouring new fluid down the dipstick...Pour the new fluid in at about the same rate as the old crap is pumped out...when the fluid coming out is CLEAN and as good as new, turn the truck off and hook the return line back up to the tranny...then turn the truck on and get run it through the gears and top off the fluid...

Well, that part was a bit interesting. The entire system holds 11-12 quarts (according to the local parts store)so I basically kept going until I had pumped out and replaced 3 gallons. Figured this way it HAD to be completely changed.
