Is it possible that rings have trouble setting because of to high of compression? I have about 3000 miles on my engine and it still burns a lot of oil. So I pulled the spark plugs and all 8 of them were very oily. I did a compression check and all the cylinders were 230-240 psi. So I’m wondering if the compression is just so high that the rings can’t get seated. I’m using chromoly rings. Originally I was going to run 76cc heads but found a good deal on some 58cc heads so I used those. This might be my problem

    Thanks

That does sound pretty high. Do you have trouble with pinging?

That is too high for 92 octane. The highest cranking compression for 91 octane is 175-180 psi. Also cromoloy rings take longer to set. Another thing is you could have too big of a ring gap.

I'm not a fan of the 305 heads (58cc) I really like 64cc heads like These heads [IMG]

If the timings getting that retarded, you might be shooting yourself in the foot to make decent power. Might consider swapping out the heads. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
