    Hey
I have a constant clicking noise on my engine bay near the rear. Now a friend of mine said that it was a spark that was missing. I tried unplugging the sparkplug wires and putting them back, but I still I still have the clicking sound. I don’t really notice anything other than the sound. Any ideas of what it could be or how to trouble shoot. Thanks for any help.

Could be an exhaust leak at the manifold, they tend to sound metalic. Maybe distributor related, how does it idle?

I have a clicking/popping in the left middle and i am convinced it is an exhaust leak. I also had a popping in the rear of my engine compartment and i figured out after a little shock that a wire had come off my distributer. My air filter had knowcked it off.

Where exactly at the rear of the motor are you talking about? Like lower down by the exhaust or on top by the air cleaner?

it idels fine the only problem i've ever had with it has been that it cuts out if i start it up cold and drive for a minute then stop. it cuts out on me sometimes when i have to do that it's scary sometimes when i'm trying to manuver around a busy intersection. but it has been a wile since it has done that.

I have an exhaust leak, on my engine, that is on the pass side, and makes a ticking noise.

Fill out your profile with your make and model (the what you have stuff), you might get some model specific stuff to target. It sounds like an exhaust leak, that would be my guess anyway. Theres not a lot other than the distributor which can make that kind of noise back there.

Is your truck carbed or injected?

Have you checked your cap/rotor? It almost sounds like one of the contacts inside your distributor cap has come loose and is getting smacked by the rotor every time it rotates past it.

Does the click speed up at the same rate as RPMs?

Mine does what would that imply i thought that that was symptomatic of a exhaust leak.

Yep, that's also a REALLY good sign of an exhaust leak on the manifold somewhere.

I also have the same exhaust leak as described. Passenger side. It seems to get a little better after the engine warms up but never goes away fully. A classic case of thermal expansion sealing itself to some extent. Now if I could only find an inexpensive pair of coated (inside and out) headers with thick flanges to start building a nice dual exhaust from. Yeah, I know - everybody wants that.

Just tighten up your manifolds when they're cold. It'll probably quit. Otherwise, it could be the donut gasket at the bottom of the manifolds which is more involved to replace. It really won't cause any problems if you let it leak, except whatever is leaking could make it into the passenger compartment somehow.

I just tightened down my passenger side header and wala the noise went away. I dont think you really loose much to an exhaust leak its just really anoying.

I’ll try tightening them down next weekend and see what happens thanks for all that info. I’ll let you know what happens.
