Came on e-mail with this caption -

"If you don't think our military pilots earn their pay ... you need to take a look at this picture ... and then look again and realize what you're seeing ...

This photo was taken by a soldier in Afghanistan of a helo rescue mission. The pilot is a MF Guard guy who flies EMS choppers in civilian life. Now how many people on the planet you reckon could set the ass end of a chopper down on the roof top of a shack on a steep mountain cliff and hold it there while soldiers load wounded men in the rear??? If this does not impress you .... nothing ever will. Gives me the chills and a serious case of the vertigo .... I can't even imagine having the nerve ... much less the talent and ability .... God Bless our military!!!!! "

Don't forget the updraft/downdraft gusts and crosscurrents associated with mountainous terrain.

You get some spooky flying in mountainous valleys like that.

Friend of mine flunked out of WO training to fly helio's due to eyesight. B4 that happened he got to go on a couple training rides. Stuff like flying M.O.E. at night w/ goggles behind Chatsworth and coming back with manzanita bush stuck in the landing gear!
    Those guys can FLY!

Cool pic... I saw a Chinook flying around Cheyenne a couple weeks ago. It was pretty cool, other than July 27, we never see anything more than C-130's, Blackhawks, Huey's, and puddle jumpers to Denver... Or maybe I'm the only one that thinks it's awesome that a C-5 even has enough room to land and take off here :D :D :D :D :D :D

Its called a "main mount", 46's were famous for doing it during Vietnam. Most pilots these days have a hard time doing a "good mainmount", especially around mountianous ENC:D . Crew chief actually plays a major part in doing good mainmounts.

The West Coast Phrog crew from about 12 years ago that put their mains through the windows of the old bus out at 29 Stumps, then balled the airplane up trying to get loose, didn't help that tactic's development...

That mishap was always talked about when we planned on doing mainmounts.
