I was just watching cops on tv and they were in a high speed chase with a 80's suburban and claimed it was going nearly 120mph. Is that even possible on a suburban?

Probably had some Type R floor mats and a racing cupholder.

Don't forget the chrome Folgers exhaust, neon underbody lights, and the 300 stickers. Wait, that would put it up in the 130 mph range......

3.08 gears, 28" tires, and a 700R4... with no slippage in the drivetrain, and zero drag on the engine... 3100 rpms @ 120 mph. highly possible.

IIRC the only 700R-4's that'll hold OD at WOT are the Camaro and Corvette versions.

That being said, even with 3.73's and 31's 120 mph would be 4850 rpm (in drive). Assuming the TC would not be locked, it could be as high as 5100 rpm...

With 3.08's the R's would be too low compared to the amount of resistance from the air...

Just my thoughts, definitely possible although anything more than 120 mph is pretty damn unlikely.

With 3.73's and 35's I had my truck up to a whopping 104 mph...it was only turning 3700 rpm but wouldn't go any faster. From ~90 mph to when i finally gave up trying to get it going any faster was well over a mile. It just wasn't making enough horsepower to overcome the air resistance at that rpm.

Sure it would downhill, with the wind to his back and a run of about 10 miles :wink1: :haha:
I could bury the need in my 83 GMC easily Im not sure if i broke 100 or not, but I bet it would be damn close, because it got about what looked like 20 mph past the 85 mark on my speedo, the little stub was pulled out of it. (thats prolly why my speedo jumps now)

an easily fixed problem with a trans rebuild, and we all know 700R4s are bulletproof

Was it 2wd or 4wd? The 2wd could have had the 454 in it so speeds that high is very possible :D

Mine wouldn't go 120 is you threw it out of the space shuttle. The air resistance makes brakes unnecessary until you get below 40 mph.

The revs would be too low to overcome air resistance.

Got mine to 105 in OD with 4.10 and 31's. I can actually kiss 95 with the 36's and 4.10's in D. Of course, that was in Texas. This altitude kills my power.
