While thta's crazy, note that I'm just moving in about 30 minutes east of that ... spent a little less money, and got a 1/5 acre lot with a small (1050sf) house, an outside 8x15 shop with lights & power, and a boadload of paved surfaces suitable for parking on /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It's still nuts, but then salaries are stupidly high around here (when you can keep a job /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif ) so it balances out.

You have no idea how tempting it is.

The starter in my truck died Sunday night at 11PM in my drivway which is basically the sidewalk ( I was blocking about 2/3 of the sidewalk). I left a note on the window but still got a ticket ... $100. Everything is overpriced around here.

My parents live in Mississippi. You could get that for 25K max there. Decent starter homes are 50K. Beautiful large homes, on ranches or property only 225K plus. I won't even comment what homes are selling for where we live. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

I will hereby resist the temptation to hijack this thread about moving out of CA. to ...oh well, I'll resist.

Well If I had the money to spend I would do it. Since it's a old house in San Fran it should be built out of clear redwood (which won't rot and is not affected by termites) except the oak flooring. Just haul of the trash slap up some new plaster and remodel the kitchen and bathroom and redo the flooring. Then put it up on the market for no less than 750K /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Re: Cost of homes getting rediculous? Check this out

One reason why I left CA. The market sky rocketed up there in the Bay Area right after I left there, and I'm sure it's getting ready to do the same where I was living.

Right now, I'm looking at a house on an acre for $85K with an option for another 5 acres at $5K, which is high, but that's six acres for $90K. I don't think I'm gonna get it, but put this place somewhere in CA and I guarantee it can't be touched for less than $200K in the cheap places.

You've got a point... My buddy and I are trying to get into rehabs, it doesn't look like it really would take a huge amount of work and money to turn a big profit on it fairly fast.

And yes, I think the price of real estate is insane...Which is why I'm trying to get into it...

Re: Cost of homes getting rediculous? Check this out

On second viewing, if all that junk is staying there and you have a patient family, shove it all out to the lawn, and have them pick through it for antiques to hawk on ebay, might just make enough to cover the rehab costs.

It looks like it will need a full kitchen and bath renovation, the wiring should probably all be replaced, I'm guessing all the windows need to be replaced (especially that one in the bedroom with the brown crap running down the wall from it).

Only if the foundation needs work would I be freaked. That's one area you can easily rack up a second mortgage to fix on an old house (don't ask me how I know)...

I'm guessing it's from the early 20's to 30's era going by the plaster and fixtures. Looks just like my house, which is fairly easy to work on, it's just that EVERYTHING needs work.

The new home we just got (waiting for the other couple to close on it) for $50K and it has LOTS of land with it. I know the size of the property is probably around 2 football fields side by side, if not a little bigger. Plus the basement and a full attic in the house and the 3 car shop with 10' side walls. Taxes for the past year paid were $403. Ahhhhhh.....nice living in a small town. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Know the address on that place? I am intrigued at how some people can live in that knd of filth, but I bet there are some cool things hidden under all that crap.

575 Victoria at Holloway. There are 2 old Packards in the garage. A bit rusty from all the leaks, but may be worth something.
