What ever happened all I can get into is CK5 and another site.
And even then it is veeeery slow to load.
I picked up a Trojan Horse on the 9th and Norton was unable to Quarantine or repair it after several attempts.
And there is a Hybris worm that was Quarantined on the 1st of November but it never showed up as being quarantined when Norton ran my system. it always came up nada.
I cannot access any of my e-mail accounts, I can get onto the MSN and Yahoo main page and my home but when I go to check mail it comes up as site unavailible.
It will not load Yahoo mesenger but it will load MSN.
It also took out Norton... as in not there anymore.
Did the same thing to my network connections, wiped them all out. and I had to reload MSN mesenger it took that out to.
It wont let me uninstall anything.
But for some reason the gods favored me and let me get onto CK5 and my online banking. But that is all.
Shannon is helping me save all I can so I can redo my puter.
But I just want to know what I picked up and how the **** it happened.
I had Norton 2003 and it didn't stop it.
It was prolly to late when it hit my drive. It got in at 2pm on a sunday so my buddy prolly opened up some damn attachment in an e-mail and let the Fawker in.
After I get this thing squared away I am putting the station upstairs and installing a friggin password.
This all started Monday when I got home from work, it was working fine when I left and they swear that they never even turned on the puter. Whatever it is it took 16 days to decide to piss me off. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
The as$holes that think that this kinda sh!t is funny ought to come over to my house for a bit. I would realy like to show them what I consider funny and entertaining.
It has something to do with a 30 minute road flare and a rectum /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Sounds like you need a firewall as well. Anti virus will only go so far.

Yep Shannon is hookin me up with one /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
I just have to try and save what I can before I redo it all, it is lookin kinda hopeless though, I can't get into alot of my stuff.
I am gittin a crash course in puters LOL
If I can save the pics I will be happy.
The rest will just take time to get sorted out again and I have plenty of time.
But I have a feelin I am going to lose everything.
Oh well if I lose the pics I still have the memories on file.

That's letting them off too easy!

Sandman is right, you should install a simple firewall. There are a few free ones out there and most of them will provide at least some basic protection.

Worms and virus' can really be a pain in the butt. I have a collection of thousands of them archived that I have collected over the years and some of them are pretty wicked.

The Hybris worm was a tricky (but common) one because it replaces a file called Wsock32.dll. Without boring you with all the sloppy details let me just say that this is an important file that can cause all sorts of problems if someone is able to replace it with their own version.

Once the Hybris Worm is on your system and you send an email it will try to send a second email to the same person with a copy of itself attached. That's how it is spread.

So, how do you protect yourself? Be careful of which emails you open and think twice before clicking on emails that say things things like "Get your free porn password here" and "Make $$$$$ the easy way".

Rebuilding your system will fix the problem for now but you need to install a few "Safety" features (anti-virus, Firewall, etc.) and be more diligent in the future or you will get bitten again.

If you are having trouble getting your old data off your hard drive, let me know. I'll do what I can to help.

    Good Luck.
