Grind the crack into a V-shaped notch, weld it up, and add a plate for reinforcement.

No welding expert here, but I thought drilling out the end of the crack, since the hole has no sharp "edge" afterwards (same idea as shotpeening/smoothing connecting rods), is the preferred method when welding cracks?

Like I said, I'm no expert, I know some of you on here are though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep, drill a hole at each end of the crack to stop it from going further. Notch the crack with a grinder, and weld it up. After welding the crack, grind it smooth with the frame.
