Cracked frame subject again - do CUCV\'s have the same frames as ours?

Just got to thinking that the military CUCV's have one ton running gear from the factory.........is it possible they have a different (read beefier <img src="http://coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/tongue.gif">) frame than our 1/2 ton K5's?

Anyone heard of a CUCV frame crack?

Got mine fixed today............no major deal on mine at least. As a doctor would say.........."you caught it early enough"! LOL

The m1009 wich is the blazer has the same good ol frame as yours. The m1009s are not 1 tons just the pickups are.

Frank, it's my understanding the frames for the CUCV and civilian models are the same things, just with minor stuff added to the CUCV's. Such minor stuff would be the full lenth crossmember on the rear cab mount part. Many trucks have just two brackets riveted to the frame to hold the cab and mounts, where some had the 1 piece.

I have heard and read about the CUCV frame being stronger but I dont know if thats true or not. I would bet they used more and different crossmembers, brackets, etc.

My '85 K30 has EVERY bracket and crossmember any guy could want. I was very surprised to find all this stuff when I bought the truck. I have had a few other K30's and they did not have all the brackets my '85 has.

If I were you, I would contact someone like Boyce Equipment and ask them what they have seen on dismantled frames laying around. They could probably tell you the specific details about the frames.

    Yep, 78Blazer is right.

There are two types of CUCV frames. The Blazer version and the 1 ton version. I am almost positive they are the same as the civilian models.

The CUCV Blazers and pick-ups have the same frames as civilan models, they do have beefier bumper mounting brackets though. I have both the CUCV Blazer and pick-up frames if you have any questions about them!
