Stephen,
I have been running the steering box brace on my '81 K-10 since 1998. Recently I noticed a crack on the frame close to the box. The weird part is it is not cracking the bolt holes out as it does without the brace; Instead it is cracked along the bottom of the frame where it bends. The crack is approx. 1" long, and directly under the center line of the steering box. Is the best fix drilling a hole at each end of the crack and welding it up? Will the frame repair kit cover this area or do I need to fab my own brace to weld on? Lastly, have you ever experienced anyone else cracking the frame with the brace and what might be the cause? (I am running 35" BFG MT's)

Thanks,
Lance Melton

I think you should go to http://www.offroaddesign.com and order both weld on and bolt on kits. Mine was cracked even in the crossmember, but a little penetrating weld fixed it. Didn't need to drill holes in the ends either.

Hope this helps.

I have a very perfect short bed K10 frame for you. Its an 85 and the paint and stenciled letters/numbers are still on it. I picked it up in Missouri and trailered it back home. You can have it for the same cost I paid for it. $500.00. The area around the steering gear box is absolutely perfect, no cracks, anything.
