Ok... After toying with my brakes yesterday I noticed something about my rear driverside spring pack. On the top spring where the pin goes through the middle of all of them. I have a crack going from the pin to the outside of the top spring. It's not all the way through to the other side but still it's cracked all the way through. It was not like this when I installed the blocks though. Did I overtighten the nuts? Is it drivable as long as I don't four wheel. Drivable untill I can get it replaced at least. Might be a month or so.

Thats what I'm thinking... but after 2 weeks of working on it and not being able to drive it I'm trying to come up with excuses to drive it.

Thats a southern thing : ) Seriously, I have never seen springs actually crack except in the south. My '83 K5 had a snapped leaf, but it was in the center of the pack. The end fell off, and I drove it that way for two years. Since yours is cracked where you bolt the retaining plate, I would definitely replace it before driving. If that thing breaks, and the springs/axle shifts while driving....

Mine did the same thing only mines broken all the way accross. In fact, the only thing holding it together are the u-bolts on the top retainer. I've been driving mine around town, short distances but don't fool yourself, its a huge risk. If it should slip, I'll most likely loose the whole left side of the axle out the back and take everything with it. Nows a good time to start planning your rear end lift and how to keep it smooth. I've got 4" blocks now and plan on going with a 2 1/2"lift rear spring with 2 in blocks to bring it back to 4" untill I get everything ready for the 4" shackle flip, elimitating the 2" blocks leaving me with my desired 6" lift .

    What, Me Worry?

Alright... I'm going to replace it this friday. I found one at a salvage yard for $35 so I can't pass this up.

Watch out..I was going to fix mine too, found one in a wrecking yard, (was still in the South at that time) bought the guys at the 'yard a case of beer for the effort, and as soon as the axle dropped free from the springs, one of the previously unborken springs cracked! : )
