Dad always told me so but was he right? I have to crack, often. When I wake up I crack my back and neck thoroughly and throughout the day I have to crack my knuckles about 25 times a day. If I don't crack my fingers they get stiff and hard to use, especially when holding a pencil and writing.

I crack my knuckles/neck as well...I have yet to read an article that links cracking knuckles to arthritis.

my father in law whom is a chiropractor says no, all your doing is releasing fluid from between the joints. also if cracking joints were bad there would be no such thing as chiropractors

I asked my doctor this cause I used to always crack my fingers...he said the same thing about releasing fluid, but he also said it was bad to be putting pressure on them like that real frequently.

My back and neck I barely have to force, in fact I can usually do it just by turning my neck or twisting a little. My fingers just really get uncomfortable sometimes.

i had talk to my chiropractor about it. he said it releases the gas build up in your joints.

If you dont crack the joints then the air/gas traped inside the joint lets the coating on the bones rub and grind away, so in time small bone fragment will come though ......arthritis.

I have to "crack" my knees a few times a day. I move my leg to the side with my foot still on the ground so it cracks. I also have to crack my back after leaning over on the lathe or on the computer. Also, my fingers, not my knuckles but the joint after that going to wards the fingernail. Sometimes my wrist too.

Quit your slouching and learn how to set up the computer right! No need to lean over your computer.

I dont usually slouch, just when its dark (the keyboard sits a little too far under the desk top so it gets shadowed.

I can crack almost every joint in my body, and do so every day. If i dont they all stiffen up and end up cracking by themselves on their own throughout the day. Im the only person i know who can crack my ribs, hips, and collarbone on command. If cracking your joints causes arthritis, im SCREWED.

lay down on a hard floor, like tile or hardwood, and do a full situp or two. Works for me every time, on the way down i can feel every vertebre crack as my spine hits the floor.

Cross your arms across your chest in an X like doing a situp. Have someone stand behind you and bear hug you right across the X then lift you off the ground. Works for everyone I do it to. No one is tall enough to do it to me though.

There have been a couple of studies on cracking knuckles. Both showed no damage from it , however If you have arthritis it isn't gonna help. The worst problem was anoying other people! I've cracked mine for about 42 years, no problem so far.
