I posted some wheels for sale in my area and this is the response I received from one guy:

    Hello,
My Name is Mr Thomas Peter,I came across your product in which you are willing to put for sale in a web site call craigslist.and I put up an interest on it,While I will like to know the lowest you can go on the price,my payment option is by US Certified Check and my client will come over for the checkup of the product and as for the pickup i will make an arrangement on that.
    Regards,
    Thomas Peter

What's up with that? Is there a safe way to respond to this? This is my first time to post anything on Craigslist, just looking for advice. Thanks.

I have actually played with them on e-mail. They get desprate and its kind of funny. There was a thread where someone was screwing around with one a while back.

Toy with him as much as possible. Tell him ridiculous stuff that you'd never tell a true possible buyer. Say you just realized they all have rough beadlines, and you charge a $100 fee for any form of check.

Waste as much of his time as you can. If everyone he tried to scam did that, everntually he would find this ineffective. I get these things all the time, and I will drag them out for months. I told one guy I was a high level exec and had offices all over the country and I'd fly out to meet him wherever he said he was, which was different every time I said I was in his area... :haha:

Tell him to fedex overnight the check to you. Make him spend some money. Then email him back and say the check got mutilated in the mail and ask for a second one......and so on

They tell you they will send you a check for more than your asking. Then ask you to mail them back the differnce. The check is a fraud and if you get caught cashing it your gonna face big charges. If it goes through you mail them the differnce and they keep doing the same thing.
