Well, the outer starter bolt hole in my small block 400 that I just finally finished putting in my '85 K5 has cracked right through the edge of the block. Does anyone know of a good welder in the Salem Area that can weld cast iron while the engine is in the vehicle. Is that even possible? Or am I totally screwed?
Thanks in advance for any replies

I dont think that is going to be possible in the truck. To weld cast iron you need to put the piece in an oven and warm it up to a certain temp before welding (plus need plenty of room around the piece for a tig welding setup preferably).

It can be welded with special nickel cast iron rod..

I have done farm equipment in the field with good luck.... but they arent running down the road either,,,
