well my rig was parked at a trailhead while i was hiking a section of the appalachian trail for a few days, got back to my rig and hit the road. drove about 10 miles at around 30 mph, then got to the freeway and as i was speeding up to freeway speed the rig started vibrating like you wouldn't believe! pulled her over and got out to take a look and saw that my driver's side warn hub had been kicked out of the axle somewhere on the road! got out the lug wrench and found that ALL my lugnuts on all four wheels had been loosened quite a bit! what the hell! this doesn't happen on it's own! why would someone do that? maybe they found that there was nothing to steal b/c i've got a kill switch hidden and all my small stuff was in the tuffy console so they thought "lets try to kill this guy" people suck, no matter where you go, i was totally away from any town or city.....thanks for the rant.
    peace.

That Sucks!! I'd bet that you were vandalized by our nation's "guardians of the environment" - they've been doing all sorts of creative damage to off-roaders, in hopes of injuring/killing the driver.

They've been doing lugs for a while - Brake lines too. A buddy of mine had the lugs loosened on his sand rail, trailer, and tow rig at the Space Age motel in Gila Bend on his way to Glamis - Quite a few others have had the same problem there.

total damage will be the cost of replacing all the lug nuts, they were pretty chewed up. what mentality does it take to do something like this? if one or more of my wheels popped off and i lost control i coulda killed not just myself but any number of people! crazy world.

    Ed is my favorite author/person

i thru hiked the AT in 1999 and was just out to visit some friends and get some hiking in, pine grove sp to harper's.

    peace.

i might would consider returning to the same place and going for another "hike" only rhis i would have to lay low with the insurance policy handy and see what crawls out. true justice would be if a wheel were to come off and go through a bus load of eco-nazis on there wat to a protest some where causing the bus to swerve off the road and take out a greenpeace convention..... now thats justice, all those tree huggers may not equal in value to a partialy damaged K5 though.[IMG]

    It needs a bigger motor.
    what's in it now?
doen't matter it NEEDS A BIGGER MOTOR

I never did understand how all these groups that were posting protests to keep something from happening use violence to get their point across...

That is the very reason why I would rather drive than hike. And also because I am lazy.

    Keep it simple!

On the same subject, anyone who cuts firewood with a chainsaw, BE CAREFUL!! The greenies have been spiking downed logs in addition to standing timber in some places.

WOW! that sux! I really dont think those things will come off from natural causes!

As a side note a good friend of mine is a retired professional motocross racer, and he came in from being on the road and his wife tells him about this club she wants to join that does all these great things for the environment and Blah Blah, and he gently asks her if she enjoys driving her new Vette, living in their new home, and having all this money to spend. She obviously answers yes, and he informs her that these are the type of people that kill the outdoor tracks and the trails races in the woods and open areas that he does so well at, and makes all the money he does to have these things.

She promptly changed her mind about joining!

    I wonder why?

I get all the excercise I need pushing my luck![IMG]

That's total BS!!! I think if it's really greenies, they need to be covered in some kind of sticky food during bear season and dropped by helicopter in the middle of a forest...
They try to kill you with your passion, kill them with thiers... Maybe just smackin' 'em across the head with a log'll do it too...
