Crossover steering on a \'72?

Everyone,

I have a 72K5. The steering box and pump are gone. It has 33's on it now and the stock steering setup looks like junk.

Should I goto crossover steering? What kind of parts do I need? Can I round up parts in a junkyard or do I have to buy a kit? Who makes a kit?

I have the D44 up front but I someday want to goto a D60. Will I be able to have a crossover setup that can go from the D44 to the D60 and still work?

Thanks,
David R.

Call up RockStomper. They have COMPLETE kits for D60s, 10Bolts, and anything else you have they can custom for you! Talk to Scott, tell him Dan sent you!

On the steering box, you would have to get a replacement (obviously). You could use a 4x4 box, and change out the sector shaft from a 2WD box! I bought the sector shaft from a local junkyard, and a rebuilt kit for my 4x4 box from AutoZone all for less than $25!

Hope this is all good info for you! Good luck!

as far as i know, the crossover steering kit does not interchange between a d60 and a d44

You need the 2 Wheel drive box the pitman arm. The stock 72 D44 should have the flat top on the right side, it will have to be sent some place to be milled flat and have the 3 holes drilled and taped. You then need the arm fro the rt side which will only fit the D44. You done nned the drop rod but since you do need the drag link any way why not. And yes I have this on my 72 now.

Hey Ken... Do you have a front bar on your Blazer with the crossover steering? I'm not willing to get rid of my front bar in order to go crossover, but if there's a way to get both at the same time, I'm going to want to do it.

Check out http://www.jeepxtremes.com/
They make crossover steering systems for Jeep Dana 44s and Dana 30s... I'm sure they can lengthen the steering rods to fit a full size GM

I had put a sway bar on it but had to pull it to make the cross over work. Its funny but even though there is more body lean with the sway bar gone, but it not a problem with the cross over steering. The only things that are trick is the arm for the rt side and the drag link.
