    Sorry, but you looked again....

Just curious what the 8F stood for behind the 44....

38385 are the other numbers on the housing....
I know it has 3.73 gears, and is open....

    Re: D 44

I'm curious as well since I have one of those in the garage and a 44-5CF in my 74 and am planning to repair the 8F or swap the parts to my 5CF.

    I do know the 8F has 3" tubes and the 5CF uses 2 3/4".

When I was replacing parts for mine, those numbers pop up on the parts store computer. I think the 8F means heavy duty cause another store it popped up as HD as one of the choices. Difference between 3/4 and 1/2 ton maybe?? Not sure.

The F stands for front axle... I havent looked close at the casting #'s on my D44's but will be messing with them later this week and see what I have.
