In your opinion, what's the smallest size tire you would run on a D60/14b and still have decent ground clearance? I was thinking a 37 or so. I want to know what the actual owners of installed D60/14b combos think.

Well they came stock with tires around 33", but they're hardly worth swapping in until you hit wide 36s or bigger.

I would say no smaller than 35".

Yes, those axles are not required that tire size, but there is certianly nothing wrong with using them for that is ya got them.

I was wanting to run at least a 36, so I knew I'd need a D60 from the get-go. I don't feel like screwing around with a 10b only to find out that I should have spent the money on a 60 to begin with.

i have 1 ton axles and 35s (on road tires)... no problems. As some1 else said, they come on rigs with pretty small tires... 31s, 33s etc. from the factory.

    Re: D60/14b tire size question

Ash, the biggent prob i had with my 14 and 35's was the clearance when aired down...even with 38's it hangs low, and now with the 40's its better, but still hangs up. i am going to shave it for another inch. but like what was said, my diesel has a 14ff and has 29" tires on it. but it doesnt go off-road. On your hybrid, 36's wouldnt be too bad with the 10 bolt because of the weight, but I would go with the 60 if you can get one.

MY '77 K20 I had came stock with 9.50x16.5 about 29" tires. I ran some mild trails with it like that. That was a 8 lug D44 or 10 bolt front and a FF14B rear with 4.10s new.

Rob, I'm quickly becoming a member of the "1 TON CLUB", just like you did a few months ago. I found a D60 in Tenn. for $200. You're giving me the type of answer I am looking for. I should have been more specific in my original post. As luck would have it, a machine shop is opening downtown, so he might be able to help me in taking some material off the 14b land anchor.

I will be using a more crude method of "machining" mine---SAWZALL /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

its just that bottom lip thats drags...so it will be dis-missed!
