Ok...here's the deal ...a friend of mine owns a salvage yard and he is willing to trade in my crappy 12 and 10 bolt axles for a 14 bolt and a 44 or 60 front in with any gears we can find...all he needs is $350 and my axles..ok heres the question....is there a sure way to tell the 44 and 60 apart without tearing it apart?...I found a frame with a 14 bolt and a 44 or 60 with 4:10 gears still bolted in and ready to go!..I took the axle comparison from this sight with me but still had promblems.....any help would be appreciated...thanx!

probably the easyiest way is to look at the ball joint area. If you look over the tire down to the axle a 44 has 3 large bolts in a spead u shape and a 60 has 4 bolt in a square pattern. Hope it helps.

Also, a Dana 60 has larger locking hubs than a 44 or 10 bolt. It will say "60" on the centersection somewhere too

Thats an easy one, they will have either a D44 or a D60 stamped on the case just to the right side of the diff cover (looking at the axle from the front). You may have to remove some grease to find it, also the hubs on the D60 are huge compaired to the D44.
