When I bought my 14boltSF it also came with a Dana 44.
    They were from a 85 K20. Now I thought the Dana 44 was a 10bolt. I found out a couple of days ago its a dana 44.
Whats the difference they both have 10bolts.

I some what new to the differential world. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

One is made by the dana corporation and one is made by GM.
The 10 bolt has a more rounded diff. There is a few differences but they are very close in strength and popularity. They both have a few weak points and strong points but one is no better than the other really. The one advantage the D44 has is the housing is made from nodular iron and is a little stronger than the grey iron that is ised for a 10B housing. They are interchangeable from the backing plate out.

Wierd you got a 44 out of an 85, should have been a 10B. Cool find.

Likely swapped in by the PO /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Make sure your whichever front you use matches the rear gear ratio.

im pretty sure all dana axles have filler plug in the diff cover, so if its got no diff cover plug then its gm axle not dana

but if its not GM axle then someone put it under there at some point
