Yeah, there is a pic of one in the newest 4WOR mag, the August issue, and its a small pic on page 58.

It says its a rare, complete 35-spline Dana 70 front axle with open knuckles that will be used in a 4x4 motor home. [IMG]

From the looks and explaination of this front, its making my ding-a-ling go schwing!!! [IMG] [IMG] It also appears to be a custom-built front from someplace like Dynatrac. Too costly for my blood!!! [IMG]

    Even F-550s have Dana 60s, don't they?

f550s use a dana 80 in the rear. there are some on ebay right now. The front is at least a 60. Very strange looking i must say.

Nope, F-550s use Dana 135 rear. F-350 DRWs and F-450s use Dana 80s. I was referring to the front axle when I said they had Dana 60s.

I plan on building a D-70 front someday when I get caught up on other projects.I have a D-70 front out of an International Dump truck(1-1/2-2ton) that is very wide with 3-1/2" axle tubes,my plan is to use D-60 ends, axle shafts, brakes etc. on it.

If I wasn`t so computer challenged I would post a picture of the D-70 and D-60 next to each other, makes the 60 look like something you would have in your riding mower!

K30, I could e-mail you the picture if you want, maybe you could post it?

I would love to see this pic!!! Anything to make the D60 look 'small' would entertain me for a day! [IMG]

Go ahead and email the pic to me. [IMG]

Try looking at the Dana 80 rear in a '94 + Dodge 2500 stick or 3500. (The 2500 is actually a 70/80 Hybrid, the 2500 autos have 70's.)

I saw one on a Heep in a magazine a few years ago. I have piece 'o crap closed knuckle 70 with drum brakes from a W300 and I hate it and can't wait to replace it. Too heavy and not even as strong as a 60, but the tubes and the ring and pinion are BEEFY. I would love one of those open ones but they're even harder to find than than a 60.

You can give me that Dana 70 closed knuckle. Seriously I just built some 35 spline drive plates for a guy here in Colorado that is running one of those frontends and changed it to a 35 spline. It had a ball and socket setup in it and he put in open knuckle 60 axles in it, and he said he had to do just a little machining on it. I can get his number if you are interested.

Tim.. go to ebay and put in item number 592701327. They are foster auto parts specializing in heavy equipment. There you will find 2 dana 80s out of 99 ford f550 trucks. I called them a week ago, they confirmed they are dana 80s just a different diff cover than my 80.. Brian

There WAS a company in canada that made open knuckel 70's they had a very large Barfield joint instead of a u joint and they used 35 spline stubs. They made them for some kind of front wheel drive motor home. Steve at Diferential eng. bought 7 or 8 of them for conversions 863 294 7602

Nope, maybe from F-450s or DRW F-350s, not F-550s. Go to www.ford-diesel.com if you wish, ask them there. I'm not making this up and I'm absolutely sure I'm correct.
