Whats a good starting pinion depth for a '86 Chevy Front D60?

Best place to start is the same place that the old pinion was at. If you have only a bare housing then it's a bit harder to figure out, but the D60 manual that can be found online has the spec for where to start.

i would normally be cool with that but the original shims we pulled out had .043 on the inside and .059 on the outside. i'll go try the manual though.
