The headliner just looks black unless I crank the brightness on my monitor up to the "stun" setting. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    Well, Chaz Moo-Ray isn't an "IT"......it's a "HE"!!!

Chaz was supposed to join the Nor-Cal guys to Moab, but had to cancel....so when we thought of him around the campfire, we thought it would make a nice "tribute" to have him mentioned on our Moab tapes.....of course, add some alcohol and some new faces saying his name, and it just got funnier and funnier.

I still wish we could have gotten a couple of hookers on our way back through Vegas, to say Chaz MoooRaaaaay on tape....THAT would have been epic!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I always though there were spot welds at the wind sheild. How did you get that loose with the windsheild in?
I want to do this to my truck one day and build a pre runner style dash with some better instruments. Just going to require I re do my roll cage.

I used Greg's dremel tool and cut from vent to vent. It only took about 20 minutes and 3 disks. It will also give a good place to bolt the aluminum dash to and/or allow brackets for mounting.

I am preparing to cut out the factory dash on my 78 k20 (also w/air). [IMG]
Once I get it out, I plan to design some means of incorporating a windshield defrost (not yet certain what that may require).
Did you run into any unexpected surprises in getting the dash out, or have any "if I had to do it again" wisdom?
I have also been planning on using a rotary tool to make the cut along the winshield and retain a lip for upper-deck attachment.
I have just about finalized the dash design and will be taking final measurements once I get the factory metal removed.

Any removal advice or "heads-up" will be greatly appreciated /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    very cool chop.

I did the same. i left a lip there as an attachement point. with your design, those 5" guages are really going to skew your line of sight.

with your cage already installed, it migh be more difficult for you. Mine will run on the cross bars and have a small gap between the leg and the tub.

It mainly looks like that due to the low camera angle of the photo I chopped (my line-of-sight is much higher). I took some dash height measurements seated in the truck and the 5" guages should be just below the site line of the end of my hood. They should only be blocking my view of a small section of my hood. "I really want to be able to see the Tach without taking my eyes off the road (SM465)...less concerned about the Speedo". Of course, if someone under 6' tall were to get behind the wheel it would probably be another story.
I too, will be adding addition crossbars to my existing cage.
Something similiar to this I imagine.

I'll know better after removing the factory dash. CHOP...CHOP [IMG]

I too, am a fan of leaving a lip of original dash material to bolt/screw/poprivet too. I even left my stock defroster vents in place. I made some new aluminum pieces and poked some holes in 'em for defrost.....I originally had my tach/speedo mounted up high also, but my "pod" looked goofy so it got scrapped....no line of site problems though.

I really like what you did with your dash...looks great /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I wish I could do something like your center section...but the sm465 shifter needs lots-a-room. Hopefully my 5" guages won't look too goofy above the steering wheel...I'm just real tired of having to look down and through the steering wheel.
I'll make small changes to the design to make it look as good as I can, but ultimately, will choose functionality over looks.
Do you ever get any obnoxious glare of your dash with that finish?
