Decided To Run 38\'s under 4\" Susp. 3\" Body and cutting!

So I've decidided to keep the 4" Rancho lift as its doing me well so far. I'm going to put on the 3" body lift this weekend (unfortunately missing the So.Cal Miller Jeep Trail Run) and get the truck ready for the 1 ton gear & 38's. Is anyone out there have pics of a 4" suspension lift, 3" body lift and 37-39" tires? I'd like to get an idea of how much cutting I'll need before I commit as its going to be heafty.

I have 4+3 and 38x12.50"s. You are going to have to cut a lot. Mine are trimmed and they still rub. If you go with 16/38.5 or 38.5x14.50, you are really going to have to trim a lot. If you're not scared to hack away, then you should be straight, but I would recommend 6+2 with trimming rather than 4+3.

Andy - You kow it! I've ripped these 33's up so bad I can't get them balanced. I'm ready to step up a few notches but want to keep the low center of gravity.

RedDwarf, ironic that you mention the 38.5x14.5 as that was my intetnion. I'm not too worried about cutting as long as I can make it look presentable. I'm concerned with the foot wells from the cab. How much cutting did you do and how bad do you rub (any tire side lugs ripped off?)? I was going with a 6" susp + 3" body but I'm really happy with the ride on my 4" setup now.

Ok i have a 6 + 2 plus 36' ers and the only way i got it to stop rubbign was to do a Steve Fox Style trim job, and i think i still barely kissed the inner fender at the back with an edge lug on our last trip, of course the shock bottoming out kept it from getting too bad, but if i trimed that much have an inch more lift and inch less (radius) on the tire, then you're gonna have to trim a bit more than i did. I'll see if i can get my pics developed and email you a couple but i'm not promising, or you can drive out and check out my ride this weekend.

Re: Decided To Run 38\'s under 4

What about the ORD 1" add a leaf front and rear. It would give you the 8" lift your looking for with the 3" body lift. Keep the 4" you have now, add the 1' and the 3" body lift. It would be cheaper then new springs, and you get to keep your good ride. Just a thought.

I have 36X12.5X15 Swampers and only a 4" lift. RockBlazer has 38X14.5X15 Swampers and 4" lift and we both have lots of travel. Click on the link below for my site and RockBlazer has pictures on his club website at http://www.extremeblazer.com

Elkboy, thanks for the pic post. It seems to me that the trick to all this is getting the offset in the rims to exactly compliment the wheel wells. Can you give me a bit of info on your rims (size, backspacing etc.. if possible) as well as tires (are those swampers?). I think the fender trimming is within acceptable limits on your truck and it looks good.

    Hey Elkboy, looks pretty good.

I haven't ripped off any lugs yet, but I did get a couple slices in the sides from fresh-cut metal. I cut more, but they still rub the rear of the front fenders. Gonna cut or lift more one of these days....

I'd imagine the hood, the cab and the shell might still be intact or its sits level on the bump stops.

Well I know a Blazer that has a 4" lift with the extended ORD shackles and a zero rate add-a-leaf for a grand total of 5" lift and he runs 37's. The sheet metal wasn't butchered either. WHO......you ask? It goes by the name of UAV. That's Steve's setup and his truck looks good and is very funtional. That's the setup I'm going for in order to run the same 37's.

As soon as i figure out that picture thing, i'll post em
all the sheetmetal i cut out was rotting anyway, so i figured cut away. it doesn't look that bad, a little overboard in the rear sheetmetal, and those rear fenderwells had to go. it was still able to flex though

It wasnt "butchered", but the UAV has definitely had a pretty good trim. =p
