    Decision time, 14BFF 11\" or 13\" brakes

I have 2, 14BFF axles, making into 1 good one /forums/images/icons/cool.gif (thanks to ript and ddraggon). One's off a 73(4x4 I would guess, due to the shock mounts being close to the axle), with 11" brakes. The other is from a 77 C20(for sure on that one), with 13" brakes.

I will be running 15" steel 567 rockcrawler wheels, and from a better braking surface area standpoint, I would think running the larger brakes would be the way to go(other than a disc conversion). Am I wrong in thinking this way? Is there some advantage to running the 11" drums, other than maybe cheaper to replace? Or maybe 15" wheels won't fit on the 13" drums? Thanks for any input on this /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

the 15" rims will fit. mine have 4 1/8 backspacing and no problems, but those are steel, i think other rims have clearence problems

Fred, stick with the 13" drums. Your truck will thank you for the larger shoes! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Scrap the drums and go with disks. Buy the brackets off someone here on CK5 and the rest of the swap is a breeze. What a payoff in braking power...
