In the very early years, any top at all was an option. You could actually buy a new K5 with no roof! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Maybe that's what they're talking about?

The only other non-pickup "Models Without Removable hardtop" that I can think of is the Suburban. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes. If you ordered your Blazer with the optional soft top and no hard top you got a tailgate that had the same function as a pickup tailgate. No rear glass. I've never seen one though. It's possible that they actually used a pickup tailgate if you got the soft top.

According to LMC you could order it like that from 73-81.

I actually believe in the 1st gen Blazers the soft top was standard equip. The hard top was the option. In the 2nd Gen they made them with non removeable tops also and I have seen them.

Actually, NO TOP was standard equipment. If you wanted a top, it was optional.

Re: Did some K5\'s not have Removable Tops?

YtseJam, in 25 years of owning 2nd gen Blazers I have never seen one that had a non-removable top. In several years' GM shop manuals I have there are no utility body styles that don't have a half cab with removable top. GM would have had to completely restructure the body to include an integrated roof like a Suburban. Maybe you saw some kind of Suburban conversion that someone shortened to a 2 door.

I know Dodge Ramchargers went non-removable sometime in the 80s. If you have any pics of a Blazer like that I'd love to see it. I always admit when I'm wrong.

Yes there is two models of Blazers without removable tops. The S series and in 92 the new body came out it was a fullsize and it was called a Blazer for a couple years then the name changed to Tahoe. If did not carry the "K5" name as far as I'm aware. 69-91 ALL "K5's" had removable tops

If it came without a top, you could not remove it. It's not there to remove. I think it is the way LMC writes the sentence that seems confusing. BUT I don't think you could have ever ordered a 2nd gen with a soft top from the factory. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Not true. I know that Chevrolet offered the Blazer through at least 1980 with a soft top option. It was called the Blazer Convertible. Here's a pic. Note the pickup tailgate.

I'll have to check my American 4X4 Catalog to find out if it was an option through the 80s.

Have you seen one, Factory Soft Top ?
I have seen the Book, but I my opinion they were a
dream item, and none were produced.

wouldn't be surprised if a limited number were made but they deteriorated or were destroyed. No reason for reproduction tops since K5s aren't exactly huge in the straight factory restoration market.

There was a factory 1st gen. soft top on E-bay a couple of months ago. I have never seen a factory 2nd gen. soft top.

My understanding is Best Top was the supplier for the 2nd gens.

Nope, I've never seen a factory one. I heard somewhere that Kayline made the factory ones. Kayline made the Scout factory tops too.

Wasn't there a Blazer that came with a factory truck camper? Or was that a conversion? That would be a cool tow rig!
