I have seen one in the junk yard. Just about bought the axles out from under it. It was a 77 SB Heavy Half with 14 rear. It was on the build sheet in the glove box. It had 3.73 axles.

I have seen K10, K20 and K30 in short bed, and long bed. I don't know if it was available in all years but I am sure some years.
Even in Fourwheeler when they made the article about the best 4x4 to buy, they said look for a short bed 1 ton

I have a shortbox and it had 1-ton drivetrain but not factory. I have never seen a shorty 3/4+ truck. I have seen crewcabs shortened and put a shortbed on them and that is kinda neat.

This week end I will ook it up, I have seen it in most 4x mags already, fourwheeler, petersen's 4wdrive, etc...
I am not saying I have a sure reference, but I believe they do research their articles before publishing.
I know if you see a truck it doesn't mean it came that way from factory, but some trucks you can tell.
Plus I don't think anyone would change their K10 to 1ton and then get the K30 badge to make it authentic, they just want the better axles right?
Anyway, we'll do some research and see what we come up with, and please no wars on this, this is research OK guys?

One of the mags also said recently that the 14 bolt was only available in a SF, so that tells you how much research they do. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

The newer trucks are available in shortbeds in the 3/4 ton and also 1 tons I beleive, but the older trucks never came that way from everything I've ever seen or heard. As soon as I see a scan of a window sticker or a picture of a truck that's verified to be original then I'll beleive it, but otherwise I'm stickin with my orignal "No".

Options lists aren't gospel either. In 88 I bought a brand new short wide 2WD pick-up. I was trying to order one and the options list said a 454 was available in the short box half ton...so i checked it off/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif The I was told it wasn't available. GM later added the 454SS to it's line in 90 so I prolly wasn't the only one that epxressed an interest.

I also have never seen a short box 3/4 or 1 ton...certainly not factory. Think about it...a 3/4 ton is built for hauling or towing (same as the one ton) so why would Chevy ever offer the heavier diff's and spring in a platform ill suited to the task? A short box to haul heavier loads??? Sure...

A shorter wheelbase especially made for towing??? yeah right, I doubt Chevy's lawyers would ever let that one through.

New 2500, 2500HD or 3500 trucks are NOT available in reg. cab short bed. They are available in extended cab and crew cab(2500HD and 3500) short bed configurations though.

I've seen plenty of C/K's that are 3/4 or 1 ton short bed crew cabs...never a 73-87 though
