I have a GM 12 bolt on my 1979 Jimmy. I have 3.08's and I want to go with 4.10' or 4.56's. Do I need a new carrier in the diff or can I just get away with a ring & pinion.

Auburn will make a gear ratio to fit any carrier you have now... the price varies by approx. $20 or so. If you have a Summit catalog or go to their online one you should be able to see the part number for the ratio you are looking for to fit the 3.08 carrier, although I would say strongly consider adding your locker or posi unit now... otherwise you'll have to reset (or pay to reset) your R&P again which takes a chunk of time to do right or some substantial cash. Just my $.02
